New Facebook Title image

New Facebook Title image

My old Facebook title image was quite odd and it was time to create a new one. As I don´t like Logos in title pages (the other time I thought it it nice, but now I think it sucks) I just used a picture of my holidays 2 years ago. I can remember exactly how I made the image because of the perfect weather and the location. It was quite hard to get there as it is somewhere far away of any street or path and I had to climb a little bit. But because I was not only there to make photos but was geocaching I had the perfect combination out of fun and...

Green Thistle

I shot this image in my parents garden some years ago. I like it because of the clean green background and the good focal point. As with nearly all my images, I edited it a little bit. To see the difference I added the “out of camera” image also.    The “out of camera” picture looked like this: By the way, this is the first of my images that I actually have hanging on my living room...

Irish street lights

Irish street lights

I am a bad storyteller. So I only write something about the picture itself. This picture has been taken on a trip through Ireland in 2008. This was the very beginning of using a DSLR. In fact I didn´t own my own camera there. I lent my sisters camera and my brothers lenses. So with their equipment I made about 2500 pics on this trip in JPG. Due to the nearly endless possibilities of the camera and lenses I was most impressed from multiple exposures. And of course playing around with all the functions. So out of the 2500 images I made roughly...

The number one reason not to allow comments on this blog

Hey, I just wanted to tell you the number one reason why I disable the comments on this blog. It is SPAM! When I planned this blog, I thought that commenting will be a main part of this blog. Well up to now this is not false, but all comments I got so far were spam for SEO of other pages. I don´t like this very much since I made a try in niche advertising websites a year ago. So I close the comments here. But I don´t want to stop communicating with you, so please write me on google+ – I think this is the best way of preventing massive...

Ball Head Idea

Ball Head Idea

Hey, I am an mechanical engineer. And a hobby photographer. And I like to construct things, and as everything else the construction begins in my mind. And this week I had a cool idea about a ballhead. You know the problem that you have when using a normal ballhead with the locking plate mounted on the top of the ball? Ever tried to make an panorama-shoot this way? It is hardcore! I have used affiliate links in the post below. If you purchase a product through one of the links, I will get a commission. This will cost you nothing extra. I only...

Macroflower

Hey folks, I recently sold my first image (after forgetting about a year or so that I´d uploaded it). In this post I show the unedited image and show the edited version. What the exact steps between these two images were that have been made I will describe in my upcoming ebook. All I will reveal is that I only used Lightroom and needed not more than 5 minutes to develop the image. Fairly good invested time I think  [wowslider id="19"]   What do you think? Were the 5 minutes good invested or would the world be better now, if I had used...

Why you shouldn´t delete lame pictures

Why you shouldn´t delete lame pictures

Do you know which potential your images have? You think you can sort out or delete your crappy images? Wait! Look at the following before and after images before deleting any of your files! Before and After Each of the following images alone is nothing special, but I think, that the end-version looks very cool. [wowslider id="15"] All I did was to to make a HDR image out of the first  three images. Then the contrast was increased a bit and finally the frame was added. Alltogether the editing take round about 5 minutes. I think that the final...

Go out and play!

Just some words today. Go out and start making pictures. This is the only way to learn. If you want to make pictures from small objects in a lightbox on your kitchentable then you obviously don´t have to go out… then go to your lightbox. If you want to be productive: do whatever you want to do now! No long planning. Do it!  I´d like to read what you did today! Have you finished some pictures and presented them already? Share your links!   Photo courtesy of...

The top 5 reasons why you should just start making pictures

Well, You have your camera ready to shoot? The only problem is, it is stored in a bag and waits for your action? Ok. here are some reasons why you should change this right now. 1. It makes fun! Take out your camera and play with it. Just change some settings and shoot pictures of everything that is around you. Random change the settings and take the same picture again. You will see the different results. If you have no idea what the hell your camera settings are for, you get an idea this way by playing with the camera. Think of it as the...

Why you should know your camera

Why you should know your camera

Your camera is your digital eye. You know your eyes and know how to use them. So it is clear that you should know your digital eye too.  The benefits of healthy human eyes are that everyone knows how to use them, they are self focussing and the aperture is always right. Your digital eye can do the same (and even more) but you have to know how to set up your camera to get the picture the way you want.  You absolutely do not need to know how to set up your camera if you are taking random pictures of random motives with random settings. The...
